  1. Immediately after an earthquake or other emergency situation, do not turn lights on or off or use matches. Use ER™ Lightsticks to check for gas leaks first as sparks from lights or flames can cause an explosion or fire. Then, shut off your gas only if you can hear or smell a gas leak. Turn gas off with a 1/4 turn clockwise or counter-clockwise of the gas shut off valve.
  2. Turn water off by turning clockwise of the water meter valve. urn off the water at the curb valve located at the water meter between the meter and the curb. Turning off this valve shuts off the water supply to the property, not just to the house.
